A joint statement issued after the Nov. 2 meeting of the Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee classified RM40.3 billion of the zone’s RM88.83 billion in approved investment as implemented, or about 45% of the total.
The approved investment is valued at US$21.8 billion and falls under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), according to the statement. The statement connected approved projects with 28,755 potential jobs, including 12,796 tied to projects it identified as implemented.
The zone is confined to Malaysia’s Johor state; Singapore participates as a partner in the initiative. Ministers welcomed investments from Singapore and Singapore-based companies that Singapore referred to the Investment Facilitation Centre – Johor, according to the statement.
EconoTimes previously reported the zone’s RM88.83 billion approval figure. The joint statement also gave figures for implemented projects and associated employment opportunities.
Malaysia’s Minister of Economy YB Akmal Nasir said the zone’s blueprint is likely to be launched by year-end alongside the annual Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. He said he expects momentum for both countries’ commitment to increase in 2027 once the blueprint is in place.
