Digital signatures are a core security mechanism for crypto networks, and TRON founder Justin Sun says quantum advances could put them at risk within one to two years.

Sun gave the warning Friday, Nov. 6, and pointed to Shor's algorithm as a way future quantum hardware might compromise signature protections. Today's quantum machines remain short of the capability needed to compromise crypto networks.

The Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) is among the methods used on Bitcoin (BTC) and the Ethereum network. These digital checks help authorize spending from crypto wallets.

Coinbase has also described work on quantum-resistant protections for its custody systems and said blockchains would need technical changes as well, EconoTimes previously reported in its coverage of Coinbase's post-quantum custody work.

TRON said in October that testers could access post-quantum cryptography on a testnet. The approach is intended to resist attacks from powerful quantum computers.
