India’s sports goods manufacturing market reached $6.7 billion in fiscal 2024-25 and could surpass $10 billion by 2030, according to KPMG India, as companies expand their running and manufacturing plans.

KPMG’s September 2025 report estimates the market will move past $10 billion by 2030. Its accompanying online summary gives a higher projection of $11 billion. KPMG puts the broader Indian sports industry at $19 billion and projects it will reach $40 billion by 2030.

Nike introduced Vegam Run on Oct. 28, describing it as its first running shoe for India. The company said Indian athletes provided input on the design. Sales are due to start Nov. 1 through Flipkart and selected stores; Nike plans to add more retail partners in spring 2027.

ASICS plans to serve as the official sports goods partner of the Freshworks Chennai Marathon and establish a running club in Chennai. The race’s 15th edition is set for Jan. 3, 2027, and ASICS says it has 150 stores across India. Bloomberg reported that ASICS India Managing Director Rajat Khurana said in a Feb. 8, 2026, interview that the business expected annual growth of up to 35% for five years and aimed to lead India’s running-shoe market by 2029.

PTI reported in September that Decathlon Sports India CEO Sankar Chatterjee put the retailer’s running business below ₹500 crore and said it aimed to double it within four years. Chatterjee also said 50% of the quantity sold in Decathlon’s Indian stores that year was Made in India. Decathlon previously announced a five-year €100 million investment plan for India covering store growth and manufacturing capacity.

KPMG points to rising fitness participation, online retail and franchise leagues as factors supporting demand. Chatterjee told PTI that India had about 2,000 running events in 2025, compared with 500 to 600 in 2018. Nike’s India sales begin Nov. 1, ahead of the Chennai marathon in January.
