Karnataka says NTT DATA plans to expand its Mangaluru workforce from 900 to more than 2,500 by the end of 2027, a move the state links to its effort to spread technology activity beyond Bengaluru.
The state’s IT and Biotechnology Department said NTT DATA leaders shared the target during a meeting with Priyank Kharge, Karnataka’s minister for information technology, biotechnology and e-governance. The department named artificial intelligence, cloud, data and other emerging technologies as focus areas and said the expansion is expected to create opportunities for local talent. Its post did not give a hiring schedule, vacancy count or breakdown of roles.
Kharge said the discussions also covered plans to expand in Mangaluru and Udupi. Topics included cloud services, sustainable data centers and digital infrastructure, as well as biotechnology, life sciences and startup incubation. He cited the region’s skilled workforce as a factor in the company’s plans.
Karnataka frames the expansion as part of its Beyond Bengaluru initiative, which aims to bring investment and opportunities to talent in regional centers. “Partners like NTT DATA are key to strengthening our emerging technology clusters and creating more opportunities for talent and businesses across Karnataka,” Kharge said.
NTT DATA’s recent cloud acquisitions provide company context, although its disclosures do not link them to Mangaluru hiring. The company completed its acquisition of Niveus Solutions on Feb. 5, 2025. It said the deal added more than 1,000 professionals with Google Cloud engineering experience to its cloud services team.
An August 2026 NTT Group presentation lists WinWire, a U.S.-based Microsoft Azure specialist, as an NTT DATA subsidiary acquired in May 2026. The disclosures do not say whether either acquired team will support the Mangaluru expansion. The department’s stated workforce target is for the end of 2027.
