Citadel CEO Ken Griffin criticized the tax cuts made in 2025, saying U.S. debt had topped $40 trillion and that faster economic growth was needed to ease the country's fiscal strain.

At an Oct. 20 conference, Griffin said President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans made a mistake by renewing tax cuts and adding further reductions in 2025. He also faulted Republicans for pursuing tax cuts over the previous two years.

Griffin connected his concern about the debt to heavy spending during the pandemic. A major Republican donor, he also advocated stronger European growth and called a tariff war involving Europe disastrous.
