Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) can contest the 2027 election, but candidates selected by David Mark’s faction may miss the ballot, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo said in an X post Sunday.
BusinessDay reported on the post. Keyamo said the court decision did not prevent the party from participating in the election. He warned that candidates selected by Mark’s group, including Atiku Abubakar, may not appear on the ballot, depending on the Supreme Court’s final judgment.
The Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the Mark-led leadership on Nov. 5 and set aside decisions made by the faction, including the primary that chose Atiku as the ADC’s 2027 presidential candidate. The case followed a challenge from former ADC deputy national chairman for the North-East Nafiu Bala Gombe, who contested Mark’s rise to party leadership after Ralph Nwosu resigned as chairman. EconoTimes previously detailed the court ruling that voided Atiku’s nomination.
BusinessDay reported that Atiku and the ADC rejected the ruling and appealed. Keyamo said the Supreme Court’s final ruling will decide whether candidates backed by the Mark faction appear on the ballot.
