Korea Investment Management entered Hong Kong’s ETF market with a $2.06 million semiconductor fund, while seeking possible ETF Connect access to mainland China, The Korea Herald reported Monday, citing the firm.
The CUAM Solactive China & Global Semiconductor ETF began trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Oct. 23, the South Korean manager said. It put the fund’s net asset value at HK$15.85 million ($2.06 million). The listing was Korea Investment Management’s first ETF in Hong Kong, and the first product it developed jointly with China Universal Asset Management’s Hong Kong unit, the company said.
The German index provider Solactive developed the benchmark, titled “Solactive Ace ETF Connect China & Global Semiconductor Top 30 Index.” Korea Investment Management said the ETF provides exposure to semiconductor companies such as Nvidia, TSMC, Samsung Electronics, ASML and Broadcom, along with associated technology firms operating in China and Hong Kong.
The partners are seeking possible inclusion in ETF Connect, which allows investors in Hong Kong and mainland China to access qualifying ETFs across the two markets. The fund must meet the program’s requirements after listing before it can be included, Korea Investment Management said.
Korea Investment Management plans to put about $5 million of its own capital behind the ETF to support its debut, the firm said. It began preliminary working-level discussions with China Universal Asset Management’s Hong Kong unit in April 2025, and the two signed a strategic cooperation agreement in November 2025. That agreement set out a shared push into Hong Kong’s ETF market, the company said. The firms are also developing more ETFs together.
CEO Bae Jae-kyu called the listing “an important starting point” for the manager’s overseas ETF expansion. He said Korea Investment Management plans to draw on its experience in domestic markets and global investing as it builds its business with the Hong Kong partner. The company’s longer-range goal is to expand from Hong Kong into mainland China, Bae said.
