Moscow hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will hear directly from U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. envoy Jared Kushner about their contacts with Ukrainian and European officials, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
Peskov said the Kremlin hopes to arrange a meeting soon. The talks could also allow Russia and the United States to exchange views on other issues, he said. Peskov described the envoys’ meetings with Putin as “important, timely and substantive.”
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said Witkoff attended talks in Oslo on Oct. 20 while Kushner joined remotely. Norway said Ukraine had asked both envoys to participate. Kushner was not named in earlier coverage of the proposed Putin-Witkoff briefing.
No date or venue has been confirmed for a meeting with Putin. Asked about St. Petersburg as a possible location, Peskov gave no confirmation. He said the Kremlin would announce the meeting arrangements later.
