Ukraine’s National Police said a man opened fire at a Kyiv military recruitment office Oct. 19, injuring six people in an incident involving the country’s mobilization system.

The injured were three police officers and three service members, and all were hospitalized, police said. The department gave no further details about their medical conditions.

According to the police’s preliminary account, officers had brought the man to the Pechersk district office over an alleged violation of mobilization law. He fired inside the center and was detained. Investigators were working to establish the circumstances of the shooting.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence describes territorial recruitment centers as responsible for military registration and mobilization procedures. Police records describe violence involving recruitment personnel elsewhere this year. Gunfire wounded four center workers in Odesa on Aug. 2. In Lviv, a service member was fatally stabbed during mobilization-related work on Aug. 21.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the Kyiv shooting.
