ATM pioneer Lamassu has announced it will start charging monthly subscription fees in order to pay for technical support and software upgrades and will no longer provide free support to users.
The fees charged will be based on the number of machines owned by an operator. The charges for those who own up to four machines, the cost will be $100 per unit per month, while those who own between five and nine machines, it will be $90 per unit, and those who run more than 10 ATMs will pay $80 per unit.
While speaking to CoinDesk, Zach Harvey, Lamassu CEO and co-founder, characterized the existing support framework as untenable, suggesting that the decision has been in the works for some time.
"Up until this point, we were just giving out support for free, and it's something that's just not sustainable. We can't give full support for free, and it was something that was never included in the price of the machine", Harvey told CoinDesk.
