Litecoin (LTC) has reached a major cryptocurrency milestone, celebrating 15 years of uninterrupted blockchain operation since its genesis block launched in 2011. The anniversary has renewed attention on one of the crypto market’s oldest surviving digital assets.

Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl highlighted Litecoin during the anniversary, describing LTC as an “OG altcoin” and signaling support for a cryptocurrency that has maintained its relevance despite dramatic changes across the digital asset industry.

Litecoin’s longevity remains one of its strongest features. The blockchain has operated continuously without an outage or shutdown since its launch. On-chain data as of October 7, 2026, shows the Litecoin network processing roughly 156,000 transactions daily.

Meanwhile, Litecoin’s MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB) privacy pool has climbed to a record of more than 563,000 LTC. The network also maintains an average transaction fee of only about $0.003, supporting Litecoin’s position as a low-cost option for everyday cryptocurrency payments.

Network security remains strong, with Litecoin’s hashrate reaching approximately 2,671.43 TH/s. The blockchain also has around 9.10 million active addresses, highlighting continued user activity 15 years after its creation.

Grayscale’s interest extends beyond recognizing Litecoin’s history. The investment manager operates the Grayscale Litecoin Trust (LTCN), currently its largest Litecoin-focused investment product. The trust holds approximately $97.56 million in net assets and has 24.25 million shares outstanding.

In September, Grayscale filed an amended regulatory application seeking to convert LTCN into a spot Litecoin ETF that would trade on NYSE Arca. The proposal remains under review by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

While Canary Capital already operates a smaller Litecoin fund, Grayscale’s proposed ETF could further expand institutional access to LTC.

Litecoin therefore enters its 15th year with more than longevity behind it. Its uninterrupted network history, low transaction costs, growing privacy features and potential NYSE Arca-listed ETF could help keep LTC relevant as cryptocurrency adoption continues to mature.
