‘Logan’, otherwise known as ‘Wolverine 3’, is set to feature the return of Hugh Jackman as the iconic Wolverine in the final installment in the standalone ‘X-Men’ series. Jackman recently teased that the follow-up will have a “different tone” from its predecessors. Meanwhile, a newly released set photograph may explain why the film is getting an R-rating.
According to the Independent, new on-set photographs have recently been released through the Instagram account @wponx, presumably a shortened name for the covert government genetic research facility project Weapon X. One of the black and white photographs showed a severed arm holding a gun with blood splattered around it. This gruesome image may be one of the reasons why the incoming film will be rated R.
Another photograph showed a fence with the word “Aviso”, or “Notice”, while another was an art shot of a puddle with the reflection of a motel. It seems that the new film will take audiences to a bleak and rather derelict future.
Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine. Joining him in the cast is Boyd Holbrook of ‘Narcos’ fame as the film’s main antagonist Donald Pierce, who is the head of security for a global corporation responsible for mutating children and turning them into highly-trained killers. According to The Wrap, Holbrook’s Donald works for the corporation called Transigen.
Patrick Stewart also returns as Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X. Rounding up the rest of the cast are Doris Morgado, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Jackman revealed that the third installment in the ‘Wolverine’ cinematic series will be much different than the previous two films. He explained, “Basically, it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done”.
Director James Mangold also said, “If you're on the make for a hyper-choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying CG f**kathon, this ain't your movie.”
Mangold continued, “In this flick, people get hurt or killed when sh*t falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy, like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won't bounce. They will die.”
‘Logan’ is an upcoming action and science-fiction film slated to be released on March 3, 2017. It is directed by James Mangold with a screenplay by Michael Green and David James Kelley. It is produced by Donners’ Company, Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment, and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.
