Three Indian residents in the UAE told Gulf News they plan Diwali gold purchases as Dubai prices remain below last year's levels, shaping how much some intend to buy.

Gulf News reported Dubai's 24-carat rate at Dh486.50 per gram on the morning of Oct. 28, compared with Dh512.25 on Diwali last year, Oct. 20, 2025. The 22-carat rate was Dh450.50, down from Dh474.25 on the same date. Both reported Dubai rates were lower than a year earlier. Babita and Makwana said price levels could affect the quantity they buy, while Mudgal said the decline influenced her plans.

Babita, an Indian resident from New Delhi, told Gulf News she plans to continue her family's annual tradition by buying a gold coin for her son. She said the coin's weight could vary with the price, and a lower rate might allow her to buy a heavier one. Even if the price is higher than expected, she does not plan to change her decision.

Neetu Mudgal, who bought a ring last Diwali, is considering bangles or a bracelet this year. Mudgal said the price decline influenced her plans; she will buy only 22- or 24-carat gold. She described gold as an investment as well as jewelry, and said the intended use would guide her choice of design.

Mitesh Makwana, an Indian resident of the UAE, told Gulf News his list includes a coin, a gold bar and jewelry, along with gold for his team. He said he had already decided to shop for Diwali, while the lower price could mean buying more gold. Makwana said his customers compare purity, making charges and buyback terms before buying.

Gulf News reported that most gold shopping takes place around Dhanteras, which falls Nov. 6 this year. The outlet said Lakshmi Puja, the main Diwali prayer, follows on Nov. 8.
