Sen. Cynthia Lummis said the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act could help crypto firms comply with U.S. anti-money-laundering rules, while criticizing Democrats over examinations of those firms.

The proposed legislation addresses federal oversight of digital assets and firms’ anti-money-laundering compliance. The House passed H.R. 3633, the 2025 bill, 294-134 on July 17, 2025, with 78 Democrats voting in favor.

More than a year later, Senate action remained unresolved. On Sept. 15, 2026, senators voted 49-50 against invoking cloture on a motion to proceed, with one senator not voting. The roll call asked whether the Senate could begin consideration; senators did not vote on final passage. The measure did not advance.

The vote concerned whether senators would take up H.R. 3633, leaving the bill’s proposed rules untested in a final-passage vote. EconoTimes previously reported on the Senate vote and Lummis’ argument about custody protections.
