Big Data at Cloud Expo
Where: Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.
When: November 1 at 5:40pm
What: During his session on, “Taking a Data First Approach to Real-Time Analytics,” Jack Norris, senior vice president of data and applications at MapR, will cover examples of how leading companies have identified ways to simplify data streams in a publish-and-subscribe framework (for example, how focusing on a stream of electronic medical records simplified the deployment of real-time applications for hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies). Jack will also detail how a data-first approach can lead to rapid deployment of additional real-time applications as well as centralize and simplify many data management and administration tasks.

What: Jack Norris will give a talk on, “Essentials for Digital Growth.” This session will detail the infrastructure, development and data management principles used by successful leaders to drive agility regardless of application volume or scale.

What: At 10:30am in the Keynote Theatre, Ted Dunning, MapR chief application architect will present, “Machine Learning: What works and What They Won’t Tell You,” covering key techniques and methods that are needed to build real-world machine learning systems. In addition, at 1:50 at the Data-Driven LDN Theatre, Jack Norris will speak on, “The Intelligent Edge: What Data-Driven Means in the Age of IoT,” where he will shed light on what data-driven means going forward and how you can move analytics beyond explaining what happened to driving business results in real-time.

What: At 11:10am in the Keynote Theatre, Ellen Friedman, principal technologist at MapR will lead a session titled, “Real World Impact of Global Data Fabric.” This talk will provide practical tips for how to build a global data fabric, including the role that DataOps and a stream-based design play. At 11:50am in the Data-Driven LDN Theatre, Jim Scott, director of enterprise strategy and architecture at MapR will present, “How to Leverage the Cloud for Business Solutions,” where he will explore different use cases that may be best run in the cloud vs. on-prem and where opportunities exist to optimize cost and operational benefits, in addition to how to get the data moved between locations. Security, backups, event streaming, databases, replication and snapshots will be discussed across a variety of use cases that run most businesses today.
