Marqeta said Friday it is widening its work with Coinbase so business clients can offer cards funded by stablecoin balances, with around-the-clock program funding among the planned features.

Marqeta will handle card issuance and payment processing, as well as its relationships with banks and card networks. Coinbase will hold stablecoin balances and manage conversion to traditional currency; Base, Coinbase’s blockchain, will provide on-chain settlement infrastructure.

The offering is aimed at Marqeta’s enterprise clients, including crypto-native and non-crypto firms. Marqeta said businesses will be able to fund card programs 24/7. Cardholders will be able to spend from stablecoin balances at millions of merchants worldwide that accept cards. The announcement gave no specific merchant count.

The arrangement expands an existing relationship: Marqeta already issues crypto-backed cards for Coinbase. Marqeta said its platform handled nearly $400 billion in annual payments volume in 2025 and is certified to operate in more than 40 countries.

Marqeta linked the effort to what it described as accelerating demand for payments backed by digital assets. The company presents round-the-clock funding and access to card-accepting merchants around the world as benefits of the planned service.

“Coinbase brings scale and breadth of infrastructure to provide for the needs of our enterprise customers,” Anthony Peculic, Marqeta’s chief strategy officer, said in the announcement. Alec Lovett, Coinbase’s head of infrastructure products, said the collaboration aims to “deliver real-time global transactions.”

Marqeta’s announcement did not name the supported stablecoins, set a launch date, list fees or specify the markets where the program would be available.
