Schaumburg, Illinois, Nov. 13, 2017 -- PICASSO + CHAGALL + MIRÓ + DALÍ + ERTÉ Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG), the nation’s premier network of fine art galleries, today announced an exclusive exhibition of rare 20th century art inspired by the beauty and magic of women. Works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and Erté will be on display from December 2nd to December 31st, at the MLG gallery located in the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL
“To my misfortune, and maybe my delight, I place things according to my love affairs”-Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso is considered the greatest painter, the most innovative sculpture and the world’s foremost printmaker of the 20th century, perhaps of all time. Picasso’s graphic oeuvre spans more than seven decades, and his prints have been pulled from metal, stone, wood, linoleum, and even celluloid. Picasso loved women, and they play an essential and unforgettable role in almost every aspect of the father of cubism’s life and work. MLG’s exclusive exhibition of Picasso’s work includes a striking linocut “Jacqueline au bandeau III” (B.1079). This haunting work, displaying Picasso’s second wife and final companion, is rendered with simple structural lines, as Picasso accentuates Jacqueline’s classical features-her high cheek bones, long straight nose, enormous eyes and dark hair. Jacqueline Roque was a catalytic force behind Picasso’s creativity and the subject of hundreds of works. MLG’s vast collection of hand-signed linocuts reveal his graphic genius and the innovative ways he achieved brilliantly colored and richly textured works on paper.
“I had only to open my bedroom window, and blue air, love and flowers entered with her”-Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall-who was born in Russia and rose to artistic maturity in France-was as an early modernist associated with several major artistic styles. His works overflowed with love, and he created in artistic formats including paintings, original graphic work and book illustrations. On view at MLG will be Les Coquelicots (Red Poppies) an oil on canvas which stirs our emotions and our most romantic sentiments. In it, Chagall-an absolute master of color-captures a lush vase of poppies and wildflowers against a landscape filled with green, rolling hills and a brilliant sky. Two lovers, floating in the brilliant sky, embrace to fulfill Chagall’s love of romanticism.
