Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a record 276,120 vehicles in October, lifting the year-earlier comparison as the automaker tracks domestic demand, compressed natural gas supply and export shipping.
The company said in a Nov. 1 release that total sales rose from 220,894 in October 2025. Domestic sales, including 9,459 vehicles supplied to other automakers, reached 226,248. Exports totaled 49,872, up from 31,304 a year earlier.
Maruti Suzuki reported 212,384 domestic passenger-vehicle sales, including 97,787 utility vehicles and 100,877 passenger cars. The company’s release does not break out monthly SUV, Brezza or small-car totals. NDTV Profit separately reported 73,058 SUV sales, including 24,736 Brezzas, and 40,646 small-car sales, up 38% year over year.
The October comparison follows a record in the same month last year. India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) changes took effect Sept. 22, 2025, lowering the rate on qualifying small cars from 28% to 18%. Maruti Suzuki linked the tax reform to a recovery in the car market led by small cars. The government said the lower rate was intended to make eligible cars more affordable and could benefit dealerships, service networks, drivers and auto-finance companies.
The automaker also recorded 696,654 sales in the July-September quarter, up 26.5% from a year earlier. Its quarterly results and record sales showed small-car sales growth of 35.9% and SUV sales growth of 68.2%.
CNG availability is one near-term consideration. NDTV Profit reported that Maruti Suzuki said supply constraints could affect November sales and that it planned to expand CNG capacity from January 2027. The outlet also reported 245,000 pending bookings and 12 days of dealer inventory; at the end of the July-September quarter, the company had reported about 200,000 pending bookings and network inventory of about 17 days.
Export conditions remain another factor. The company reported 108,119 exports in July-September, down from 110,487 a year earlier, and cited a challenging geopolitical situation. NDTV Profit reported that October exports included delayed shipments and that West Asia-related disruption was affecting alternative routes. November sales and the planned CNG capacity expansion are the next indicators to watch.
