Shawn Oliver, the Republican nominee for Massachusetts lieutenant governor, pleaded not guilty Oct. 19 to four driving charges after a crash, while remaining on the Nov. 3 ballot despite suspending his campaign.

Police charged Oliver with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He also faces speeding and marked lanes allegations. The New Bedford Light reported that the court released him without bail and prohibited him from driving while the case is pending.

Oliver suspended his campaign Oct. 18. His running mate, Republican gubernatorial nominee Mike Minogue, had urged him to do so and said he would seek Oliver’s resignation if their ticket wins.

A New Bedford Police Department statement provided to ABC News said Oliver’s vehicle rolled over after hitting parked cars late Oct. 17. Five parked vehicles were involved, and two sustained extensive damage. Police said Oliver received hospital treatment before his arrest.

Massachusetts’ official candidate list still pairs Oliver with Minogue. Early voting runs through Oct. 30 ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Oliver’s next court date is Nov. 16, The New Bedford Light reported.
