Stephen Miller is set to become White House chief of staff Monday, after The Wall Street Journal reported President Donald Trump challenged his deportation strategy.

The report said first lady Melania Trump told her husband that acquaintances had been deported under the administration's immigration campaign. The Journal linked her concern to Trump's criticism of Miller, a senior official who has helped shape the government's enforcement strategy.

In March, the Journal reported that Trump discussed immigration enforcement with senior aides and Melania amid rising tensions in Minnesota after raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). That account said Trump had judged some deportation measures excessive.

The White House announced Nov. 6 that Miller would become chief of staff Nov. 9. He currently serves as deputy White House chief of staff.
