CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost put meme coins’ share of altcoin market value below 3% and said the shrinking share pointed to lost liquidity in a segment whose holders face substantial losses during market declines.
Darkfost also estimated more than $1.4 billion in accumulated selling pressure for meme coins traded on Binance, using Bitcoin’s October 2025 high as the starting point. That estimate concerns Binance trading, while the market-share reading compares meme coins with altcoins more broadly. The selling-pressure figure is Darkfost’s measure, not a tally of confirmed sales or cash outflows.
Bitcoin (BTC) had fallen as much as 54% from its peak and was about 35% below it at the time of Darkfost’s analysis, he said. In an Oct. 5 report, Binance Research put Bitcoin’s October 2025 high at $126,200 and its July 1, 2026, low at $57,800, a 54.2% decline.
Darkfost linked meme coins’ vulnerability to their reliance on cultural trends and lack of solid fundamentals. He interpreted their smaller market share as a sign that liquidity had left the segment and warned that holders could face substantial losses during broader market declines.
