German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he wants to meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at least once a year to review Germany’s progress in artificial intelligence.

He made the proposal during a Berlin conversation with Huang about AI’s role in German industry, according to Nvidia’s account of the discussion.

Huang argued that AI should build on Germany’s industrial expertise. “That knowledge belongs to you,” he said. “AI can only augment your capability; it will not replace your capability.”

Nvidia said the discussion examined how to combine German engineering and manufacturing with AI. Huang described the technology as a “new instrument” and urged companies to use it.

Merz also said he hoped Huang would be “extremely happy” about Germany as a place to invest, Nvidia’s account said.
