Meta plans to use Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele’s film The Four to present Facebook’s audience and income opportunities to creators, tying the campaign to its London world premiere and Lagos homecoming premiere, BusinessDay reported.

The partnership was announced Oct. 29. BusinessDay said a creator-hosted space is planned as part of the events. Nigerian creators based in the country and abroad can use it to present their work on Facebook and how it connects their stories with younger viewers and international audiences.

BusinessDay framed the project as part of Meta’s effort to position Facebook as a place where creators can build audiences and maintain fan engagement, as well as promote films. The outlet said creators may gain wider reach and, if eligible, income from original work.

Oluwasola Obagbemi, Meta’s head of communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, described Facebook as a way for creators to build global fan communities. He said they can “earn money from the original content they share.”

Akindele said the partnership could help African cinema reach more viewers around the world.
