MetaMask warns that a bridged token may be lost if the receiving Stellar account lacks a trustline, an on-chain authorization that permits the account to receive a particular non-native asset.

MetaMask issues a warning before users finalize a bridge. For swaps involving assets already on Stellar, its trade flow can add the necessary authorization. If the destination lacks authorization for the asset, Stellar rejects a standard token send and the sender keeps the funds.

A trustline reserves 0.5 XLM, reducing the balance available for spending; network fees also come from spendable XLM. A new Stellar address requires an initial deposit of at least one XLM. XLM covers both fees and minimum-balance requirements, as EconoTimes previously explained.
