London’s Metropolitan Police is examining two additional cases involving Russell Brand, Commissioner Mark Rowley said, while the comedian remains jailed after his conviction for rape and three sexual assaults.
Rowley told the BBC, “I clearly wouldn’t be surprised if many more came forward.” AFP reported that the cases involve rape allegations by two women, including one who was 16 at the time. EconoTimes previously covered Rowley’s warning that the conviction might prompt more reports.
The jury verdict against Brand followed a trial involving allegations from six women. Judge Joel Bennathan ordered Brand held in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.
The BBC issued a renewed apology over Brand’s time at the broadcaster from 2006 to 2008, citing a “culture and failings.” AFP said media companies that had worked with Brand faced scrutiny after Channel 4 and The Times published a joint investigation into abuse allegations in 2023.
