The Independent reported that actor Michael Douglas urged U.S. election officials Tuesday to safeguard the midterm vote, ensure every vote is counted accurately and securely, and resist directives that could threaten a free and fair contest.
The outlet said Douglas made the appeal in a Facebook video addressed to election administrators and government representatives. He framed his message around public officials’ duties under the Constitution, then said, “Our vote is our voice.”
The appeal came as Americans cast ballots in Tuesday’s midterm elections. The Independent described Douglas as a longtime Democrat and reported that Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Ariana Grande and Rihanna had encouraged fans to vote.
TMZ reported that Brie Larson, Chris Pratt and Reese Witherspoon had displayed “I Voted!” stickers. The Independent also reported that Olivia Rodrigo promoted Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr Amy Acton at her Ohio shows late last week by wearing an Acton campaign T-shirt. Acton attended one performance, where Rodrigo greeted her with flowers, the outlet said.
