Mist Wallet Hacked, Complains Ethereum User

An Ethereum User has reported loss of 7,182 ETH through Mist wallet after it was hacked. The person has complained to Daohub that all his ETH has gone to wrong eth address.

The Ethereum enthusiast’s complaint has drawn many comments after downloading the Mist wallet from either the GitHub repository or the Dao contact page. The person mentioned in his complaint that, “Dear Team I am not really sure this issue happened by Mist which downloaded from Github or Dao contact however all my ETH has gone to wrong eth address. Please look and help me now I can't even move myself...my whole world is collapsed.”

The user claims that, funds have been sent to the wrong Eth address when trying to participate in the crowdsale of DAO. Total amount of 7,182 ETH (then 159 bitcoins) has been lost after he tried to send 2218 ETH to same DAO address. After checking from block chain of the person’s eth address, it has found some weird address recipients. To the person’s worse, not just the amount of transaction went missing but the whole balance in the Mist Wallet.

Basically I had 7218 ETH and buy a DAO I did practice with 1 ETH so you can see the transaction below with 1 ETH. But what happened is after I confirmed that, DAO contact has done successfully,” the person complained in the statement. He further added that, “I tried to send 2218 eth to same DAO address but after I confirmed it... I don't see any transaction after the practice of 1 ETH but all my ETH has been gone away.”

It is still unknown whether this is an issue with the Mist wallet itself as the user’s transaction somehow exposed the private key. Comments from other users poured in and one user mentioned in the comment that, ‘it is also possible this user was redirected to a malicious website and downloaded a fake Mist client.’

The user has asked to investigate for this incident and the real culprit behind this is yet to be revealed.
