The Indian government said Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened a data center and cybersecurity training institute for the Reserve Bank of India in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, adding infrastructure for payment systems and cybersecurity training.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the opening in an Oct. 25 release, identifying the facilities in Odisha. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) describes the project as four data centers intended to host payment and settlement systems. It says the institute is planned to support training and research, along with capability development in cybersecurity and enterprise technology, as outlined in the government’s earlier project description.
The PMO has also said the data center has Uptime Institute Tier IV certification. The RBI said in 2023 that the project was intended to serve the bank and the wider financial sector. Its account said the foundation stone was laid March 22, 2023, at a planned site of 18.55 acres.
