Modi’s office said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral ties during an Oct. 22 call that also addressed developments in West Asia.

The official readout said the leaders discussed regional developments and relations between their countries. Modi said India backs diplomatic engagement and dialogue in addressing regional issues.

Modi’s office described the relationship as having “sustained momentum.” It said both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership. India and Israel formalized the framework as the Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Prosperity during Modi’s state visit on Feb. 25-26. A joint statement identified defense, technology, cybersecurity and trade as areas for cooperation.

The office said the leaders would maintain communication.
