Moniepoint Inc. is reorganizing its engineering and product teams into smaller groups with responsibility for building and operating products, a change that could remove some roles as the fintech pursues growth.
The new model assigns compact teams to individual product areas and makes each responsible for its products through development and operation. Moniepoint said in a statement shared with Techpoint Africa that a regular strategic review led to the change. It said the structure is intended to support growth, improve reliability and speed product development.
Some areas will need fewer roles, while the company plans to add positions such as platform architects to design and oversee systems used by the product groups, Moniepoint said. Employees whose roles are affected will be considered for suitable vacancies within the company. If no appropriate position is available, redundancy consultations may follow, according to the statement.
Nairametrics reported that Moniepoint had not disclosed how many employees could be affected or when the changes would take effect. The outlet also quoted a company spokesperson as saying the reorganization should not be considered a layoff.
BusinessDay and Nairametrics reported more than $400 billion in annual digital payment value across Moniepoint’s subsidiaries. Moniepoint’s website lists $250 billion processed annually in more than 14 billion transactions, but does not date that figure. The sources do not explain the difference.
In its Jan. 29, 2026, year-in-review post, Moniepoint said Moniepoint MFB processed ₦412 trillion in transaction value and handled more than 14 billion transactions in 2025. The company separately reported that Monnify, its web-payment gateway, processed ₦25 trillion that year. Those figures are stated in naira for named subsidiaries and do not explain how the reported $400 billion total was calculated.
Moniepoint’s website describes its services as payments, banking, credit and business-management tools, and says its platform serves 20 million businesses and individuals each month. Nairametrics reported that the company had not provided a timetable for implementing the reorganization.
