Russia’s Foreign Ministry rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s allegation that Moscow was involved in an antisemitic online campaign. Netanyahu also accused Russia of helping Iran.

Netanyahu made the accusation in response to a question from i24NEWS. He alleged that Russia was helping Iran and using artificial intelligence to operate bot networks targeting Israel and Jews around the world.

The ministry told Tass on Oct. 22 that it was perplexed by what it called “entirely unsubstantiated” accusations. It also called the suggestion of Russian involvement “particularly absurd” and said government policy had made antisemitism virtually absent in Russia.

The ministry said it proposed an information-security cooperation agreement to Israel in 2018 but received no response. It characterized Netanyahu’s remarks as media-driven allegations ahead of Israel’s legislative election, scheduled for Oct. 27.
