Mt. Gox’s trustee has another year to finish repaying creditors after a court-approved extension moved the deadline to Oct. 31, 2027, leaving some claimants waiting for funds.

Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi said in an Oct. 16 notice that the change applies to base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments. The previous deadline was Oct. 31, 2026.

Many creditors have not completed the procedures needed to receive payment, Kobayashi said. Others ran into problems during processing. The trustee described payments to creditors whose procedures were complete and processed without problems as mostly finished, with exceptions for certain repayment types.

The exchange collapsed in 2014 after a large Bitcoin theft. Repayments in Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) began in July 2024. By March 2025, more than 19,500 creditors had received payments in those assets, according to an earlier trustee notice.

Trustee notices show that the payment deadline was also extended in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The latest notice gives Kobayashi until Oct. 31, 2027, Japan Standard Time, to complete the affected repayments.
