IDT Corporation said same-store sales on the National Retail Solutions (NRS) point-of-sale network rose 1.9% year over year in October, while transactions per store fell and its top-item price measure rose 2.2%.
The year-over-year reading compares October 2026 with October 2025. NRS said every comparison in the report uses a per-calendar-day basis. The October comparison covered about 26,600 stores active in both months and drew on approximately 249 million transactions.
Across participating stores, units sold rose 0.7% year over year, while transactions per store fell 0.9%. NRS calculated its 2.2% figure as the dollar-weighted average price across the 500 products purchased most often through its system; the increase was 2.1% in September. The measure describes that product basket and is not presented in the release as a broad U.S. inflation rate. Brandon Thurber, NRS vice president of data sales and client success, said sales growth trailed the price measure.
The month-to-month comparison showed a 1.1% increase from September to October 2026. For the three months ended Oct. 31, 2026, sales were 0.1% above the corresponding year-earlier period. NRS put September’s annual sales change at 0.1% and August’s at a 1.1% decline. October’s unit gain followed three consecutive year-over-year decreases.
The transaction base differed across comparisons. NRS used roughly 295 million transactions at about 34,000 stores for its September-to-October reading; the three-month comparison drew on approximately 725 million transactions. Across its full platform, the company recorded $2.3 billion in October sales through 153 million transactions, a separate total from the same-store comparison.
NRS serves independent retailers, including bodegas and businesses selling convenience goods, liquor, groceries, tobacco and sundries. In October, spirits sales advanced, particularly in prepared cocktails, tequila and cordials; sports and energy drinks also grew. By metro area, Raleigh-Durham was a growth standout, while Washington DC and Los Angeles had the largest declines.
