The New York Stock Exchange opened longer trading hours at NYSE American Options on Oct. 19, giving overseas investors and U.S. traders additional time to manage selected stock and fund options.

The early session runs from 7:30 to 9:25 a.m. ET (11:30 to 13:25 UTC). The added late session for eligible stock options runs from 4 to 4:15 p.m. ET (20:00 to 20:15 UTC). Eligible fund options that were already available until 4:15 p.m. ET retain that cutoff as part of regular trading.

Options on shares of Oracle, Apple, Alphabet, NVIDIA, Amazon and Microsoft are among those eligible. The selection also includes options tied to the funds identified by SPY, IWM and GLD. NYSE presented those names as examples, rather than a complete list.

Cboe began similar sessions Oct. 19, covering options on 24 stocks and five exchange-traded funds. Its new late window applies to qualifying stock options; eligible fund options were already open through 4:15 p.m. ET under regular trading hours. Cboe said options on those stocks and funds accounted for about 53% of average daily U.S.-listed options volume through September 2026.

NYSE American said the longer schedule addresses a gap between trading hours for underlying shares and options used to hedge them. The exchange expects overseas investors and U.S. investors seeking to manage share exposure outside regular hours to benefit from added access. NYSE Chief Product Officer Kevin Tyrrell cited demand for more time to invest and manage risk.

The broader window also brings execution risks. In its filing with the SEC, NYSE American warned that trading could be thinner during the added hours, with less liquidity and wider spreads. The rules prohibit market orders in those periods and require firms to disclose the risks before accepting customer orders.

NYSE said it plans to expand equity trading hours in December. NYSE American is due to review which options qualify for the extended sessions after Jan. 1.
