A Nov. 1 poll by the New York Times and Siena Research Institute put Democratic state Rep. James Talarico seven points ahead of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton before Tuesday's U.S. Senate election.

Talarico drew 50% support to Paxton's 43%, with a 3.4-percentage-point margin of sampling error. An earlier CBS News/YouGov poll of likely voters found a closer result: 51% for Talarico and 49% for Paxton, within its 3.5-point margin of error.

The Texas Secretary of State's certified ballot lists Talarico, Paxton and Libertarian Senate candidate Ted Brown for the U.S. Senate race. Voters are scheduled to decide the contest Tuesday, Nov. 3.

France 24 described Texas as historically Republican and said Paxton's legal troubles have posed a challenge to his campaign.
