India’s National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) is developing a national project-data repository, with The Economic Times reporting Finance Ministry and Reserve Bank of India approval.

The newspaper reported Wednesday, Oct. 21, that it had reviewed a letter from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) documenting the approvals. DFS and NaBFID records describe work on the repository but do not independently confirm those approvals.

The Economic Times said the proposed National Infrastructure Data Platform would consolidate information for lenders and investors. NaBFID Managing Director Rajkiran Rai told the paper that potential data sources included the National Highways Authority of India, banks and Gati Shakti. Rai said users would be able to follow projects from early planning through completion.

DFS’s fiscal 2024-25 annual report said NaBFID was developing the repository to complement the National Infrastructure Pipeline in collaboration with PM-Gati Shakti. The report described the aim as drawing patient capital into infrastructure investment. NaBFID’s fiscal 2025-26 annual report said it was evaluating and building a centralized repository while engaging stakeholders.

A NaBFID consultant request for proposals dated Dec. 18, 2024, called for assessing repository options, mapping gaps in existing infrastructure repositories and developing information on project finances and transaction structures across project stages.

DFS says NaBFID was established under the NaBFID Act, 2021, to support long-term infrastructure financing. The public records cited do not specify a launch date, technology partner or final data-sharing arrangements.

NaBFID’s tender page lists a management-consultant request for proposals published Sept. 3, 2026, with an Oct. 8 bid deadline. That deadline had passed by the newspaper’s report, and the tender listing does not state the outcome.
