Last week, US President Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address at the Capitol and was met with heckling from two Republican Reps. Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted Boebert and Greene following their breach of decorum.
Thursday last week, Pelosi criticized Boebert and Greene for their outbursts at Biden during his televised address. Pelosi agreed with the remarks made by South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsay Graham in the midst of the address that the two far-right congresswomen should have kept quiet rather than interrupt Biden in the midst of his speech.
“I agree with what Sen. Lindsay Graham said. ‘Shut up.’ That’s what he said to them. They should just shut up,” Pelosi told reporters according to the Associated Press.
Biden brought up immigration at the southern border during his speech, where he was interrupted the first time by the Georgia Republican congresswoman. Greene, who is part of the Conservative Freedom Caucus, stood up and started chanting to build the wall, referencing the pledge former President Donald Trump made during his administration that Biden shut down.
The second interruption was made by Boebert when Biden recalled the death of his son Beau Biden from brain cancer in 2015. Biden said that the cancer that killed his son was likely caused by toxic exposure to burn pits. Biden said that many veterans have died likely because of exposure to toxic substances and burn pits.
“A cancer that put them in a flag-draped coffin,” said Biden, to which Boebert yelled that the US leader put 13 servicemembers in coffins, referencing the 13 troops who died from a suicide bombing during the Afghanistan evacuations. The interruptions were met by jeers from Democrats.
The cameras focused on Graham, who was seen muttering “shut up” under his breath.
In other related news, Pelosi was among the targets of the pro-Trump mob during the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, with many of those who are under trial being revealed to make threats against the California Democrat.
Politico reports that a former right-wing militia member from Texas, Rocky Hardie testified against his traveling companion, Guy Reffitt, Friday last week, revealing that in their conversations, they talked about violently pulling Pelosi from the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Hardie maintained that the remarks were only a joke and that he did not think Reffitt or any others who broke into the Capitol that day would be able to go near lawmakers who fled and hid for their lives.
