There may have been some possible tension between President Joe Biden and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but Netanyahu’s recent conversation with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was more on the optimistic side. Pelosi and Netanyahu reaffirmed relations between the United States and Israel in their recent phone call.
Pelosi spoke with Netanyahu on Wednesday, reassuring the Israeli Prime Minister of relations between the two countries along with the support of Congress towards Israel. Pelosi’s phone conversation with the Israeli leader also comes as Israel seeks to prevent any tension from happening between Netanyahu and President Joe Biden. Both leaders are known to disagree on several issues such as the Israel-Palestine conflict and the threat posed by Iran. The House Speaker revealed that they also discussed the pandemic and the shared hope of a fair two-state solution.
The conversation also comes as the Palestinian Authority or PA sent a letter to the White House that claimed all factions, including the Islamic Hamas organization, were all committed to establishing a Palestinian state along the borders that were in place before 1967. This would then include Eastern Jerusalem as its capital.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that a two-state solution would be the best solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict. Blinken also stressed the Biden administration’s belief that the two-state solution is what is best for the future of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state along with a democratic Palestinian state. The Secretary of State also pledged that the Biden administration is willing to work to eliminate what he described as the “disproportionate focus” towards Israel by the Geneva forum.
In other news, Pelosi was among the Congressional members that were targeted by the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol last January 6. Recently, new details emerged regarding the rioter that allegedly stole the laptop in Pelosi’s office, 22-year-old Riley Williams. Video footage of a woman who is allegedly Williams based on the matching tattoos and the clothing surfaced where she is doing a Nazi salute.
Speaking with NBC News, Williams’ attorney that the video was meant as a joke in an attempt to mock Nazis. However, they would not confirm or deny if it was really Williams in the video.
