U.S. stocks ended Tuesday with the Nasdaq Composite nearly flat despite a 0.49% decline around the market open, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1% as the broader market rose.

At the early reading, the Dow was unchanged and the S&P 500 was down 0.15%. The Associated Press reported that the S&P 500 closed up 0.3%, while the Nasdaq finished 6.07 points lower, a decline of less than 0.1%.

Brent crude fell below $109 a barrel after nearing $112 earlier Tuesday, part of the oil retreat that accompanied the Dow's advance. The Associated Press reported that lower oil prices helped lift the broader market. It also cited stronger-than-expected quarterly results from Equifax and Hasbro. Losses in Apple and Meta Platforms weighed on the Nasdaq.

Meta Platforms and Tesla are scheduled to release third-quarter results after the U.S. market closes Wednesday.
