Blue Bottle Coffee and New Balance have launched a unique sneaker collaboration: the Fresh Foam X 1080 v12, a coffee-inspired design available exclusively in Japan. This stylish blend of Blue Bottle's minimalist elegance and New Balance's sporty silhouette taps into Japan's enduring love for both brands.
Priced at $180, this exclusive design showcases the signature chunky silhouette of the Fresh Foam X 1080v12 line. The light cream-dyed knit uppers with rounded toes exude sophistication, while the light blue enlarged "N" logos on the sides reflect Blue Bottle's iconic branding.
Blue Bottle Coffee is renowned for its minimalist coffee shops and delicious beverages across major U.S. cities. It is surprising that a café synonymous with impeccable taste would collaborate with New Balance on a plain-looking sneaker.
This special collaboration will only be available in Japan, exclusively at select New Balance retailers, for ¥22,000 (approximately $150). However, it is now available on New Balance's website for $179.99.
Blue Bottle enjoys even greater popularity in Japan than in its home country. Influential architects like Karimoku have designed Blue Bottle stores. Human Made, founder NIGO, is such a fan that he has collaborated with Blue Bottle and even opened a café inside one of his flagship stores.
New Balance's Fresh Foam line might be overlooked in the U.S., but it is highly regarded in Japan, leading to numerous successful collaborations. Combine this with the Japanese penchant for securing their own New Balance collaborations, even for the more unique models, and it becomes clearer why Blue Bottle partnered with New Balance.
The shoe is completed with enlarged and textured cream-blown rubber outsoles. The Fresh Foam X midsole foam, made from approximately 3% renewable resource-derived bio-based content, adds a sustainable touch to the design.
Additionally, flex zones and underfoot cushioning enhance flexibility, especially in the narrower areas of the shoe. The spotted tonal brown rubber outsole trim cleverly pays homage to Blue Bottle's coffee creations. To add a finishing touch, the counters of the shoe feature vertical suede strips embroidered with Blue Bottle's iconic bottle logo.
