WASHINGTON, April 17, 2018 -- Virtru, a trusted provider of data protection and data privacy solutions to more than 8,000 organizations, announced it is delivering a new data protection platform designed to defend against unauthorized email access while simplifying secure file sharing. The new advancement combines Virtru’s patented ease of use and control with the power of the Intel® vPro™ platforms and Intel® Data Guard Technology.
Built on the open standard Trusted Data Format (TDF), the Virtru Data Protection Platform allows organizations to maintain complete control of sensitive information regardless of where it is created, stored, or shared. By enabling customers to easily protect regulated information and intellectual property shared inside and outside their organizations, Virtru provides peace of mind and helps enterprises meet stringent data privacy and security requirements, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), HIPAA and others.
Virtru has integrated its encryption key management system with Intel’s vPro platforms, including Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) and Intel Data Guard Technology. The solution maintains Virtru’s granular audit and control capabilities including the ability to revoke access and control forwarding at any time for data shared and accessed anywhere. In addition, this integration provides industry-leading security and control by:
- Ensuring email and file encryption keys are protected, even if end-user devices are compromised or infected by malware and software vulnerabilities
- Adding additional control options, such as ensuring emails and files can only be accessed on individually authorized Intel vPro-enabled devices
Protecting email content is the initial use case delivered with this new service. In the coming weeks, this integration will enable enterprise customers to easily run Virtru’s Customer Key Server in cloud environments without the cloud provider ever having access to the underlying key material. Unlike traditional customer hosted key offerings, enterprises do not need to trust the provider with their keys.
“Enterprises are thirsting for stronger ways to protect their data without impeding their end users in the wake of continued breaches, leaks, and regulatory violations,” said John Ackerly, CEO of Virtru. “Combining the power of the Intel vPro platforms and Data Guard with Virtru’s ease of use and control gives customers an undeniable security advantage.”
“Data is the value of the business today – any business,” said Jim Gordon, General Manager of Intel’s Platforms Security Division. “Virtru’s new solution makes protecting data easier with its new email security solution based on Intel Data Guard Technology available on Intel vPro-based platforms. With the increasing pressures of regulatory requirements, the ability to take real control over access to data and implement additional security capabilities are more important now than ever.”
Since its launch in 2015, Virtru’s unique approach to simplifying data protection has won accolades from thousands of enterprise customers, as well as leading cloud providers, industry watchers, and the media. Virtru is Google’s only recommended data protection partner for G Suite and was named a 2016 Google Partner of the Year. In 2017, the company was selected for the exclusive Microsoft Accelerator, recognizing its innovative solutions for the Office 365 market. Virtru has been recognized as one of CNBC’s ‘Upstart 25’ Startups, a Security Information Network (SINET) Innovator, and PCMag.com’s Editor’s Choice for Email Encryption. In 2015, Fortune magazine included Co-Founder Will Ackerly in its “40 Under 40” list.
