News Corp posted $2.28 billion in fiscal first-quarter revenue and $403 million in total segment EBITDA, increases of 6% and 19%, respectively, giving investors two measures of the media company's performance.

Dow Jones revenue reached $630 million, up 8% from a year earlier. The $403 million EBITDA total covers News Corp's segments collectively, so it is separate from Dow Jones' revenue figure.

At Dow Jones, circulation and subscription revenue grew 7%. Average total subscriptions across its news products exceeded 6.9 million, an 8% annual gain; digital-only subscriptions rose 10% to nearly 6.5 million. Digital-only accounts made up 93% of the Wall Street Journal's total subscriptions.

The Journal's subscriber base reached five million after a 9% annual gain, EconoTimes reported in earlier coverage.
