Indian benchmarks rose in the week ended Oct. 30, as one analyst told Moneycontrol that U.S. election and Iran-related uncertainty could bring volatility to the coming trading week.
Calculations based on closing levels in the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE archives show the Nifty 50 climbing from 22,600.00 points on Oct. 23 to 23,053.10 on Oct. 30. The Sensex advanced from 73,123.83 to 74,459.53 over the same period. Those moves equal gains of 453.10 points and 1,335.70 points, or 2% and 1.83%, respectively. The preceding week, the Nifty lost about 2.36% and the Sensex about 2.15%, so neither had fully recovered that ground. The Nifty 50 tracks 50 companies listed on the NSE, while the Sensex covers 30 BSE-listed companies.
Bajaj Broking Research marked 22,905 as the Nifty level to watch. The firm put resistance at 23,175-23,250 points and said a drop below 22,900 could keep the index within a 22,600-22,900 range. If the index held above 22,905, the firm saw room for the rebound to reach 23,150-23,200 points.
Moneycontrol quoted Siddhartha Khemka, head of research, wealth management, at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, as expecting Indian equities to be “range-bound with bouts of volatility next week.” He cited the U.S. federal general election on Nov. 3 and uncertainty over a possible escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) lists Nov. 3 as the federal general election date.
Diwali falls on Nov. 8. The NSE's 2026 holiday schedule lists the date as a trading holiday and says a Muhurat Trading session will be held, with timings to be announced later.
