Major-General Samaila Uba rejected a pause in Nigeria's campaign. Reuters separately reported a surge in northeastern attacks on military positions, carried out by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Uba spoke at an intelligence briefing in Abuja on Nov. 5. Among the results he cited were rescued hostages, arrests and insurgents killed, Reuters reported. The report said operations would also continue against other armed groups.

Reuters put the insurgency's duration at 17 years and said Nigerian forces have conducted operations to contain it. Uba said talks with Sahel governments that had left the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) covered security and diplomacy.

The earlier dispute followed The New Humanitarian's report of an alleged faction-level truce, which the military denied. EconoTimes covered the military's denial.
