North Korea and Russia signed a supplementary pact for a Russian education center in North Korea, adding an academic project to their broader cooperation, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Tuesday.

The pact names Pyongyang University of Education No. 2 and Russia’s Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University as partners in the center. KCNA said the agreement covers its establishment and operation. The Pyongyang university trains teachers.

Russian Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov arrived in Pyongyang with a delegation Monday. The group visited the North Korean university, KCNA reported.

North Korean Education Minister Ri Yong-chol met Kravtsov the same day. KCNA said the ministers shared their countries’ experience in education and considered ways to increase cooperation in the sector.

The pact follows a June 2024 mutual defense treaty between North Korea and Russia. Since signing that treaty, the countries have broadened cooperation in military and economic areas as well.
