North Korean and Chinese officials held a ceremony in Pyongyang on Sunday to honor Chinese soldiers killed in the Korean War, marking 76 years since Chinese volunteers entered the conflict.

KCNA reported that North Korean attendees included Kim Hyong-sik, vice chairman of the standing committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, and Vice Foreign Minister Kim Myong-su. KCNA also named Qi Han, China’s charge d’affaires ad interim, and Hong Zongming, a vice minister in China’s veterans affairs ministry who led the delegation.

The agency named Anju, Hoechang County, Onsong County and Kaesong as other places where wreaths were laid at Chinese soldiers’ graves and cemeteries. KCNA also reported that Chinese representatives held a reception later Sunday.

Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a Saturday visit to Dandong. KCNA said his itinerary included paying respects at a memorial to Chinese troops, attending a banquet and touring a bus factory. The Korea Herald characterized the trip as an effort to highlight the longstanding alliance between North Korea and China.
