A financial indicator tracking the Japan-Korea liquefied natural gas (LNG) market stood at $30.01 per million British thermal units Monday, Oct. 19; separate notices detailed delivery and maritime security disruptions.
Trading Economics data showed the gauge gained 0.28% from the prior day and rose 15.47% over the past month. The company says the series is based on financial instruments; it does not give the price of a specific physical LNG shipment. Trading Economics lists a high of $69.96 in August 2022.
Asian and European buyers are competing for available LNG shipments, a dynamic also covered in EconoTimes’ earlier reporting on winter LNG demand uncertainty.
Edison S.p.A. said Sept. 28 that QatarEnergy’s force majeure extension would prevent six additional cargoes from reaching Italy through early December. Edison said it had replaced 23 affected cargoes. Reuters separately reported, citing two trading sources, that QatarEnergy extended notices affecting some Asian customers through November.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a tanker captain reported that a skiff carrying seven people fired two shots toward the vessel off Yemen on Saturday, Oct. 17. The tanker’s security team fired two warning shots, after which the skiff changed course. Authorities were investigating, UKMTO said.
Gas Infrastructure Europe said European Union gas storage held 844.87 terawatt-hours as of midnight ET (04:00 UTC) Monday, Oct. 19, equal to 74.58% of capacity.
