EDISON, N.J., Dec. 04, 2017 -- Today, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) announced its endorsement of Rebecca E. Symes for Jersey City Council (Ward E) in the December 5th runoff election.
"I'm honored to have the support of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, a union that has always stood up for working families and progressive values. In order to reduce poverty and grow the middle class, here in Jersey City and nationally, we should be supporting organized labor and making sure that working men and women have a voice in government. I look forward to advocating on the City Council for our shared priorities like protecting workers' rights, supporting comprehensive immigration reform and ensuring workplace safety."
The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters takes the issue of endorsing elected official candidates seriously and only endorses candidates who hold the same values as we do of protecting and preserving workers’ rights. We only provide endorsements to candidates that support prevailing wage protections, encourage the use of Project Labor Agreements, fight 1099 Worker Misclassification and support fair wages and benefits for working people.
John Ballantyne, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the NRCC, believes that Symes is the right candidate to represent the downtown area of Jersey City.
“We are pleased to endorse Rebecca Symes in the December 5th runoff election for Jersey City Council, as she believes in supporting responsible bidder language, project labor agreements and protecting the rights of middle class workers,” said Ballantyne. “We believe she’ll be an important advocate for workers’ rights and help to bring good paying construction jobs to the City.”
