French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez urged police to stay flexible for Saturday’s demonstrations after protests the previous week involved rioting and looting, Anadolu Agency reported, citing BFMTV.
Nunez made the appeal during a Saturday visit to the National Police Academy in Paris-Vincennes. He told officers to stay “extremely mobile,” the agency reported, attributing the remark to BFMTV.
Nunez also pointed to calls for disruption from political movements and criminal groups. He warned that businesses, institutions and internal security forces could be targeted, the agency reported.
EconoTimes previously reported that authorities planned a 70,000-officer deployment for the demonstrations, 10,000 more than a week earlier. The plan included specialist and mounted police, helicopters, drones and anti-drone systems, with armored vehicles and water cannons available.
The demonstrations were planned for Saturday, Oct. 24.
