Gulf News reported that OKX chief executive Star Xu urged faster attack alerts after Binance estimated $6.3 billion in digital assets were affected, to help exchanges act before attackers moved funds.

Coinbase said it made precautionary changes to the systems it uses to store cryptocurrency keys offline. Reuters reported that Kraken was monitoring security incidents across the industry for ideas it might use in its own operations.

Xu proposed a shared warning channel to notify other firms when an attack is detected. He said quicker notices could let exchanges coordinate and try to stop funds suspected of theft before they are moved.

Binance’s initial review pointed to an engineer’s compromised laptop as one possible way attackers gained access. Gulf News cited security specialists who expect companies to expand employee training on social engineering, in which attackers manipulate workers into granting access to sensitive systems.

Abu Dhabi’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority said Friday it was following the Binance incident and speaking with the exchange. EconoTimes previously reported on the regulator’s response.
